Crossing Borders (Jonah 3:1-10)Pastor Tim Holwerda, September 30, 2018
Part of the Jonah series, preached at a Sunday Evening service
To obey God's command the second time, Jonah had to cross many borders, traveling from the seashore to Nineveh. What can we learn?
It is God who crosses borders. God is the centerpiece here: The word of the LORD came to Jonah; Ninevites believed God, God saw what they did, and God relented.
God loves cities, including Nineveh. He crosses borders because he loves the people in them.
God gives us a message to carry with us across those borders. The message of Jonah was short, but the result/impact was profound.
The Ninevites also crossed the border by believing in the God of the message they had heard. They crossed over from death to life.
To sum up: Jonah crossed borders because God crosses borders so that the lost (all of us) can cross borders.
